Day 2 – And I am still here

Today was … not perfect but doable. I did get some things done that I put on the list. But there you see the elephant in the room. We live in a culture, or better, we are cultivating a way of living where productivity is the norm. „If you haven’t done this today you are a failure“ is often my inner monolouge. On the other hand, if you just live in the moment and don’t get things done, nothing good will happen either.

You are the architect of your own life. I firmly believe (and take this as one of the few words of wisdom I can offer) that „you are on your own kid“ (ok, it’s Taylor Swift wisdom). No one is going to decide where you are going in life. No one is going to to the hard stuff for you. I don’t know what career I want to take. I’m 28 now and I have studied and worked already but those were all decisions I took based on parental advise (which for me was not that present), cultural representation and conformity and well the things I thought other would think about my choice. And now at 28 I realized that I was the only one who was responsible for taking my decisions as I’m also the only person living with them. I’m responsible to create the life I want to live within the limits I was born with (never going to be a mathematician for that matter).

That brings me to another point I want to address: Working in something your are not remotely interested in. Yes, we all need to work to make money and make a living. And not everyone is priviledged to work in something they love but I believe that we all can either switch to something we are more atuned with or do something on the side that lights up our soul. Hell, I hate my job. I think it is pretentious, can easily be replaced and does not add any real value (and I’m bored). But I’m trying to for example write this blog which brings me joy, go running more often, meet up with people I enjoy. Life is not all about your job, yet, your job is a huge amount of time you invest. We only have a finite time on this earth, why not use it?
